Aren’t grandmas the greatest?!?!!! They can make boo boos better with just a teeny kiss. They cook special meals for their little loves. They make life and childhood adventures fun! And best of all, they never, ever run out of hugs or cookies!
Simply put, grandmas are magic in the eyes of a child. Pure. Sweet. Magic.
After photographing babies for the last decade, I love when grandparents can be included in portraits.
Their absolute delight and excitement for this new baby fills the studio. The’ve experienced those long, sleepless nights filled with the hope of a few minutes of sleep. They know the challenges of chasing toddlers, balancing life, and raising little ones that would rather not eat their veggies, but would instead enjoy taste testing the petrified crumbs found under the refrigerator. Grandmas know what it feels like on that first day of kindergarten. And later, what it’s like to watch their children waive goodbye as “leave the nest.”
They know what it’s like to have a place in your heart that only a child can fill.
They think about the day when little arms will once again wrap around their necks. Even through the challenges of raising children, grandmas know the absolute joy of motherhood. And for them to have the opportunity to love a little one again, fills their hearts in ways that cannot be explained.
This baby is so loved already by her grandparents and her parents. What a treasure it will be for her to hold these portraits in her hands when she’s older and see her family in absolute delight to have her in their world.
