Louisville KY Family Photographer | When Your Boys Grow Up
First time meeting Grandma and Grandpa.
First time holding you.
First bath.
First feeding.
First night of rocking you back to sleep.
First smile.
First “mama” or “dada.”
First “boo boo” that gets fixed with a kiss.
That first time they will wrap their arms around your neck and squeeze.
Most of my days now are spent with your little ones at the studio, just days old. Fresh, new little lives with years of adventuring ahead of them. For now, your nights are long and your days are filled with firsts. It’s pretty amazing (tiring too) but amazing, isn’t it?
It feels like not too long ago, I was just like you. In my years of firsts.
Now, my boys are far from the days of reaching up with big open arms and gummy grins for me to scoop them up out of their cribs. There are no more chunky little hands holding my hand while learning to walk. Those days are treasures now stored in my mind and in my mama heart.
I recently read online that raising boys feels kind of like a really long, slow break up. You know it must happen, and it needs to happen. BUT for a mom….it’s a mix of joy seeing them grow but knowing life is scooting you out inch by inch. Whew.
So while I’m creating artwork for the beginning of your motherhood journey, I’m also thinking of you years down the road when you’ll look back at your album and digital portraits and remember.
I thought I’d share with you just a few fun snapshots of what life with boys is like when they’re not so little anymore. It’s not our usual around here on the blog, but these are my “babies” and they still move my soul in a way no one else can. I love adventuring with them, creating moments, and trying to preserve as much of their childhood as I can.
One will either be a comedian or an astronaut (I’ll let you guess who that is). The other, I’m thinking, will design something pretty amazing that the world needs. They’re both hilarious in their own way, kind, and thoughtful of others. For that, I’m truly thankful.
So while I plan and pour over your family’s newborn session, while I’m careful not to miss any of their fresh, baby details… I’m thinking of all the things you’ll want to remember about your little one when they’re the age of my boys. What do I wish I had to remember those early days? That’s what guides me, and that’s what I want to give to you and your family.
