Some babies leave a mark on your heart from the very beginning.
Scottie is one of those babies, and in this case, she belongs to a couple I photographed many years ago at a beautiful park on a summer evening. They’re the kind of humans you meet and think, “We need more people in the world like these two.”
Now that they’re parents, they came to the studio during those early newborn days with a clear vision (not because they had everything figured out, but because they trusted the process). They weren’t chasing trends or planning sessions just to check a box. They wanted photographs that felt like joy, like laughter. Like their family.
So instead of treating each session as a one-off, we planned Scottie’s first year together: newborn portraits, a sitting milestone, and a first birthday session to celebrate this season before that first year became a memory.
I’ll sprinkle a few favorites from her first year below.
Louisville Newborn Photography That Feels Like a Warm Southern Hug

Newborn days are tender in a way that’s hard to describe until you’re already past them.
Scottie’s newborn session set the tone for everything that followed.
Soft light. Neutral layers. A pace that allowed her parents to exhale.
This is often what parents searching for a newborn photographer in Louisville, KY are hoping for. Not an overstyled production, but an experience that feels like a good southern hug and a warm cup of fresh coffee with your best friend during one of the biggest transitions of their lives.
These images weren’t created to live on social media for a week. They were created to celebrate Scottie’s year of firsts.

How incredible this year of firsts truly is! From her first days on Earth, to learning how to giggle, to learning how crawl and walk, to learning that snuggling in her mom and dad’s arms just feels like home. It’s a year worthy of remembering well!
Newborn and first birthday sessions always include moms and dads, because images with you in them will be your baby’s treasures one day. For baby milestone portraits – we play, we laugh, we gets lots of grins, and plenty of cake flying about for their first birthday.

The Sitting Milestone (Around Seven Months)
There’s something special about the sitting stage.
Babies at this age are expressive and curious, still round-cheeked and unmistakably baby, yet clearly becoming their own little person. Scottie’s milestone session captured that in-between season perfectly. The giggles. The snuggles. Those sweet, chunk baby rolls. Ah! It’s one of my favorite ages to photograph babies.
For families considering baby milestone photography in Louisville, this stage is often underestimated. But it’s one of the most rewarding sessions:
- Your baby is stable and comfortable
- There’s no pressure to perform or walk
- Personality starts to shine through

Like most babies this age, Scottie found her parents to be the ultimate entertainment, which gave image after image of gummy grins and sweet snuggles. For families considering baby milestone photography in Louisville, this stage often passes unnoticed. It is a fleeting moment, yet it’s full of character and personality that you’ll want to remember for years.
First Birthday Portraits
The first year moves so fast, and in the middle of diapers, giggles, and everyday chaos, it’s easy to forget just how much your baby is changing. First birthday portraits aren’t about props or themes. It’s about the little expressions, the laughter, the curiosity in their eyes. It’s about family.
Just Scottie, exactly as she was in this moment of her first year. When Scottie’s images are in her baby’s first year album, they don’t feel like separate events.
They feel like a story. Her album is going to be incredible!
This is THE birthday you’ll remember when they’re grown. Turning 5, 8, 12… those are all great years, but there’s something extra special about that first birthday. For parents searching for a Louisville first birthday photographer, this is often the season they don’t realize they want documented until it’s already passed. So no regrets, okay? Go ahead and schedule.
Scottie, I hope your second year is filled with just as much excitement, joy, and love as your first! Happy Birthday! I’ll have your album to you soon.

So What Do We Do With All of Those Images?

All of these little moments (the newborn snuggles, the sitting giggles, the first birthday smiles) aren’t just meant to live on a screen. They’re meant to be held. They’re meant to be flipped through again and again, long after the days themselves have passed. That’s where our albums come in. Each one is thoughtfully designed by me, so you don’t have one more item on your to-do list.
Families tell us time and time again that these albums are their favorite part of the experience. They’re the birthday you’ll remember when they’re grown, the little hands and curious eyes you’ll show at graduations, and the smiles you’ll revisit during family gatherings for decades to come.
An album isn’t just a collection of images. It’s a story you can hold. A way to make the first year tangible, and a keepsake that grows with your family.

If you want a relaxed newborn photography experience in Louisville without weeks of planning, this is where it begins.
