This amazing family had neighborhood friends nudge them to contact us for a newborn session at our relaxed and comfortable studio in St Mattews, KY. (Thank you Christina!) We love when other families we’ve worked with share their experiences with family and friends. It truly is the highest complement we could receive!
Ares’ mom contacted me a few months before her due date to find out more about a newborn photo session. They don’t have family portraits created very often, and wanted something really special this time around. Her main goals included wanting to keep things natural, light, soft, airy, relaxed, and super safe with Covid precautions. Done and done!
What Did Their Newborn Session Feel Like?
Before their session, we took care of finding the perfect dress for mom from our studio’s wardrobe, and then sent styling suggestions with links for easy purchasing for dad and big brother. We have everything baby will need.
The day of the session, their family arrived to mom’s dresses cleaned and ready for her to wear and lunch and snacks available at their leisure (all geared toward their dietary needs.) Any time we work with siblings, we begin with easing into images of the entire family. This day was no different. Big brother and I became best buddies while playing with cars. (Becoming buddies = great connection and warm smiles.) We allowed plenty of time for feedings, diapering, and comfort without making their family feel like it was a full day commitment.
What if Baby Doesn’t Want to Sleep?
After family images, we moved into images of baby Ares alone and with his mom and dad. This little nugget was not interested in sleeping at all, and that’s okay! Since our signature style is more about connection with mom and dad and fresh baby details versus specific posing that requires super sleepy babies, we were still able to create images that showcase how much his parents adore him without the stress of needing to have him fall asleep.
What Happens After Their Session?
Their images were carefully selected by me, and then professionally retouched by Anna. She’s gifted in elevating images naturally without overdoing it. You won’t find anything over the top happening here. Then, we will meet via Zoom to choose their favorites and decide how they wish to enjoy them, all from the comfort of their home.
Because newborn sessions create your very first photographs of your family together, moms and dads want them to be seen and enjoyed in their home. Most parents choose a combination of our albums, digitals, and framed wall art. When I tell you that these are the most beautiful, hand-made pieces in the United States, I’m not joking. They arrive with “wow” factor. I’ve had so many dads tell me how much they love our albums and framed artwork after seeing them. (Even the dads know what’s up!) No matter what you choose, it’s also delivered directly to your home! Again, we like to keep things simple, easy, and relaxed for you.
Below I’ll share only a few favorites from their session, because we want families to have first dibs on sharing them all with family and friends.
